Ella’s hair products wish list

Hi again!

Both me and Juna have been trying to take better care of our hair since we got our haircuts (one of the reasons was that our hair was just way too damaged!)

So I have been on a hunt for some of the best hair products out there, researching and reading  confessions of people who have tried all kinds of products. This is the list I made with basically all  the things that I need to have in my life right now! Some of them I have tried before and I liked them a lot and some of them I can’t wait to try and see if they live up to the expectations! Here they are:

1. Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Shampoo and Conditioner(I don’t think I will try the mask, at least not for now)

I heard a lot of people on YouTube raving about the Bumble and Bumble line, but also some of them absolutely hating it, so I never really decided to give it a try. However, I was given some samples of it the other day in Boots so I finally tried it. I have naturally curly hair so very often it gets frizzy and out of control.  I really liked how smooth my hair was after using  these products and especially how it tamed my frizzy hair! I will give it a go and use it for longer so I can tell if it really works, since I only used it a couple of times.

2. Organix’s Macadamia Oil intensive mask

Everyone loves, so I need to try it! Unfortunately I haven’t found my holly grail hair mask yet. May be this will be it, who knows?

3. TRESemme Heat Tamer Protective Spray

I have been searching everywhere for the best heat protector out there. There a couple winners, but this one I noticed being mentioned in most confessions. Juna has it and she loves it as well. Considering the price, the smell and the amount you get, it is definitely a winner!

4.Schwarzkopf Osis Finish Sparkler Shine Spray

I want to try a good shine spray, as I haven’t used one in ages. I haven’t tried this one before, but it gets very good reviews so decided I will try it. I just want to use it to make my hair more shiny, healthy looking especially on those grey, gloomy days when beautiful hair just makes you feel better 😀

5.L’oreal Professionnel Techni Art Super Dust & Texture Powder

I quite like using a bit of dry shampoo in the mornings to add some volume to the roots of my hair. But I heard this product is even better than that. Apparently a small amount of this ‘magic powder’ gets you crazy volume at your roots. And it seems like it would last  for ages as well! Let’s see if it really works!

Have you tried any of these products?

Les us know if you did and what did you think about them! We are open to any recommendations, even though this wish list is already getting way too long :))

New purchases Part 2

Hey everyone! It’s Juna here. Here is my second haul of makeup I’ve bought.

Without further to do, here it is 🙂

1. Maybelline SuperStay 10H Tint Gloss in Forever Coral.

This product is true to what it promises: the gloss lasts incredibly long! The colour is very pigmented, and you can apply it by itself without a lipstick. I applied it around 5 in the afternoon, and my lips were still super-moisturised at 10pm. I topped it up at 11pm and there was still a hint of colour on my lips in the morning when I woke up. It’s moisturising, and not sticky at all. texture-wise, I would say it resembles Vaseline.

2. L’Oréal Glam Shine Fresh 6H Gloss Brilliance in Fresh Grenadine.

I love the shade of this lip gloss. The colour is not too pigmented, and this lipgloss is perfect to top up a lipstick to make it pop. The only downside is that it is super sticky. Being out in the wind with loose hair turned out to be a bad idea with this gloss.

3. Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss – Sheer Colour in Tease.

I have never tried Smashbox products before. Their products are a bit more expensive (on the same price level as Bobbi Brown). I absolutely love this gloss. It’s a beautiful bright plum colour, and has a medium tint (not too sheer). I’ll be buying more glosses from Smashbox for sure 🙂

* Colours in the same order as the first photo above*

4. Estée Lauder DayWear BB Cream in 02 Medium

I haven’t bought BB creams before as they resembled foundations too much, and looked like a heavy application when I wore it. I recently researched online and found about this new product from Estée Lauder. I like this very much as it is a very light-coverage BB cream and it covers blemishes very well. It smells amazing! (a very soft cucumber scent). It is a bit more on the expensive side but I feel it’s a good investment. I use a dollop of it and apply it over my face after applying a little moisturiser. It also has SPF 35.

5. Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Powder Makeup with SPF10 in New Rich Cocoa

I have always used Bobbi Brown Pressed Powder in Basic Brown, but I decided to change it up a bit this time. I’ve had problems with my T-zone lately, and this product helps to control the shine very effectively. The powder stays on for very long, and I haven’t noticed it clogging my pores at all. One tip I would give to anyone trying to find a matching shade when buying pressed or loose powder is; don’t go to the drugstore and apply the foundation lightly. Be crass and rub your finger strongly onto the sample, and then swipe your finger on your face near your cheekbone. The accentuated pigment should be similar to your skin tone. I have learnt this about powders the hard way ;).

*** BONUS ***

If you’re living in Nottingham, pay attention! House of Fraser is doing an amazing promotion on Estée Lauder products until the 16th of February. I went to the outlet in Victoria Centre, and after buying their two products above, I got all these products below for FREE! I am not quite sure if the offer is available nation-wide at all House of Frasers.

1. Makeup bag.

2. Perfectly Clean Fresh Balancing Exfoliator.

3. DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Creme.

4. Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum

5. Advanced Night Repair Serum

6. Pure Colour Eyeshadow Palette in Ivory Slipper, Silver Bell, Iridescent Violet and Smokey Ember.

7. Your choice of lipstick, you can choose between a pink shade (I chose this) and a coral shade.

Together the entire gift is worth £90, I was told.

Giving you all a heads up!

That’s it for now, hope you enjoyed this post!

Stay fab! xx

Things I loved this week (Ella’s version)

Hey loves!

I just wanted to share a few things that I used over and over this week! I hope you enjoy this new section we are introducing!

1. Vichy Dermablend Foundation

I wore this so much, that I am almost out of it now! High coverage, great lasting power and blends really well into the skin. I would probably say this is the best high coverage foundation I came across so far.

2. L’oreal Duo Sun Powder in Brunette Harmony

I feel like during winter, my skin becomes really pale and I want to add a bit of color and warmth to my face. I prefer to use something  more like a bronzing powder, rather than an actual bronzer, as I like adding bit of color all over my face, instead of only in the hollows of my cheeks. This bronzing powder works really great for that.

3. The Naked 2 Palette

I have really been loving this palette lately, as I am more into neutral colors for some reason. It  has some great crease colors and the black is  great! It is extremely pigmented and blends well, I often use it instead of a black kohl liner or liquid liner, for a softer look.

Hope you enjoyed!

Whip yo’ hair back and forth

Hey there!

It’s Juna here 🙂 Sorry about the lack of posts recently but between exams and classes starting again, we’v been pretty busy. To make up for it I’m doing a short post today about a couple of hair products I really like.

By the way, I have to apologise that a lot of the products here have their caps missing. I am cursed when it comes to bottle caps.

1. Argan Oil

This dubious-looking bottle is singularly the best hair product I have ever used. It’s Argan Oil (marketed sometimes as Moroccan Oil) and I got this while in Essaouira. The oil can be used for multiple purposes, but I primarily use it for my hair. Since I use straighteners on my hair a lot, it gets pretty damaged over time, specially the ends. After a couple of weeks of using this product I noticed a marked difference in the appearance of my hair, and it was falling out much less. This is one product that should be in every girl’s beauty arsenal.

2. Aussie Dual Personality Hi-Hold + Hi-Shine Hairspray

One of the better hairsprays that I have come across. Aussie products are great for volume, and this hairspray doesn’t disappoint. It doesn’t dry out my hair (as some other hairsprays do) and doesn’t make it too rigid to the touch. Plus, it smells great!

3. TRESemmé Heat Defence Styling Spray

This product disperses a mist (though it says spray). It’s very light so I use this when I am going for more voluminous hair. One problem is that your hair gets damp when you put a bit more of the product on, so you have to wait for a bit for the hair to dry before using the straightener/curling iron.

4. VO5 Tame&Shine Heat Defence Taming Spray

This spray doubles as a heat protectant and a shine spray. The texture is more similar to that of a hair serum, and it is great if you are going for a more sleek do, as it de-frizzes your hair (not recommended if you want to go for volume). One down-side is that you have to be careful about how much you spray on, as a heavy application can result in your hair looking too slick and feeling oily to the touch.

5. John Freida Full Repair Deep Infusion Serum

Again, a wonder product. The bottle is tiny but it packs so much goodness! Just one pump is enough to leave your hair feeling remarkably healthy. Instead of just applying the serum, I would recommend really working it in to the ends of your hair. This really helps with split ends. When out and about and in humid weather, you can use this product to get rid of frizzy hair and fly-aways.

6. Batiste Dry Shampoo

All those days I over-slept and woke up with 20 minutes to get myself to class and no time to wash my hair, this dry shampoo spray helped me look presentable. This may sound nasty to some of you, but I can’t afford to wash and straighten my hair every single day because so much heat would damage it. I spray this on to my roots and work it in with my fingers, comb through, and voila! Instant volume and fresh-looking hair. It’s a bit difficult to wash out though, sometimes it would require about two shampoos to get your hair completely clean. I wouldn’t dare travel anywhere without this!

7. Babyliss Ceramic Straightening Brush

With my new hair, it’s not really possible to wear it curly because my hair poofs up in to the most unflattering afro and I look like your neighbourhood crazy cat lady. I don’t want to use my straightener all the time, and want to change over to blow-drying my hair. I haven’t tried this out yet, but I have heard good reviews about this. It may not be visible in the photo but the black plate of the brush is perforated so the heat from the hair dryer goes right through. I’ll update you all on how good this product is, but I have high hopes!

There it is for now, drop a comment if you want to know where we got our products from, or if you need any advice on specific styling 😀

Until next time, stay fab! xx

New purchases :)

Hello all 🙂

First off, Merry Christmas! Hope you all had a lovely festive day!

Today I’ve decided to do a short post today on makeup I’ve bought over the last two weeks.

I’m also working on a New Year’s dramatic makeup, so bear with me!

1. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink

2012-12-26 04.54.23

I normally stick to liquid liner (L’Oreal Superliner Carbon Gloss). The essential difference between these two is that liquid liner is glossier, while the gel liner is more matte and intense. Also, with liquid liners you can make mistakes and it is easier to correct than gel liners, because they dry out in 10-15 seconds. With gel liner, you have to use a separate liner brush (I use an angled flat brush), but liquid liners come with applicators.

I really like this product because of the long-lasting effect and the intensity of the colour.

2. Sleek Blush by 3 in Pink Sprint 366

2012-12-26 04.54.51

I bought this palette after falling in love with Ella’s Pumpkin Palette. These colours are incredibly matte, and you have to be careful about how you apply them, as a much heavier application will make it difficult to blend. I use Pink Parfait (the colour on the left) for the hollows of my cheeks and apply a bit of Pink Ice (the colour in the middle) on the apples of my cheeks. It’s a good palette if you want to go for dramatic blush.

3. Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes Mascara.

2012-12-26 04.55.22

2012-12-26 04.56.09

I absolutely love this! Such a good investment 🙂 My lashes are pretty long and they cross over, so it’s pretty difficult for me to control the application without making it clump (with other mascaras). This mascara has an excellent pointed brush, and it separates and lengthens lashes without them clumping. A single coat leaves your lashes defined and separated, and adding on more coats will make your lashes look very dramatic. I recommend this to everyone!

4. Revlon Colorburst Lipsticks in 050 Hazelnut, 095 Crimson, 015 Grape.

2012-12-26 04.59.20

I’ve used these lipsticks in two posts before, and I must say I really like them. They are quite moisturising, but you may want to add some clear gloss on top. The colour is not too intense so you can build it up or play it down if you like 🙂

There you have it!

Stay fab, everyone! xx

Juna’s essentials: What’s in my bag?

Hi everyone!

Today’s post is going to be about revealing my bag to you. These are the 4 very essential products that I always carry with me, and that I absolutely love.

1.Estee Lauder Ideal Light Brush-on Illuminator (in shade 05 ‘Deep’)

estee lauder

This product is very compact (slightly thicker than a Sharpie) and it has an amazing brush tip. You simply twist the dial at the bottom and the concealer comes out, and you can brush it on to your problem areas when they need topping up. This is perfect for me when my makeup has worn off or is a bit blotched later in the day. It’s not too heavy and it blends amazingly into my skin.

2. L’Oreal Colour Riche Serum Lipstick

l-oreal-color-riche-serum-lipstickOne of my favourite lipsticks. This range of lipsticks by L’Oreal has a moisturising core that keeps lips very hydrated without having to add balm or lipgloss on top. The colour is very shiny, and I always prefer a lipstick with a soft shine to it over a matte one, as it makes my lips look fuller. I use the shade S503 Bright Burgundy.

3. Clinique Superbalm Moisturising Gloss

Superbalms 03 003I’ve been a religious user of the Clinique Superbalm range for years now. Clinique has a more dermatological approach to makeup so I feel a marked difference in my skin using their products. The Superbalm is incredibly moisturising, and trust me, once you use it, you will be hooked! I use it in the colour ‘Raspberry’ 🙂

4. Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow Palette in Bone, Nude, Velvet Plum and Espressobobbi-brown-holiday-2009-velvet-plum-eye-paletteThis product is an absolute god-sent! It is so versatile and can be used for any occassion. For a day look, I use the Bone shade to highlight the corner of my eyes, and the Nude shade all over my eyelids (and sometimes under my eyes to set in concealer). I often use the flat end of the brush and the Espresso shade to line my eyes. For a night look, I use the Espresso shade to create a smoky eye by smudging it on the outer corner of my eye and halfway under my eyes. Then, I add a bit of the shimmer Velvet Plum shade on my crease. This is one product I absolutely cannot live without!

There you have it! My bag and all its beauty products revealed.

Ella’s five handbag beauty must-haves

Hey guys

Today I thought of telling you about the things I never leave the house without. I usually carry a lot of stuff in my bag, but these always have to be with me, as they are the basics that help me retouch my makeup , take a look from day to night or just change up a bit when I feel like it during the day. Every single person is different and has different needs. I have mixed skin and usually I need some retouching during the day, especially in the ‘T’ zone. However, you might find that other products work better on you. It’s all about finding what will make you feel great all day! I hope you enjoy!

1. Sisley Paris Phyto-Poudre Compacte Pressed Powder

I love this powder because it is great for setting my makeup in the morning. However, I mostly use it for mattifying my face during the day whenever my forehead or nose gets a bit oily. It is almost transparent so it does not cake up the face. It lasts for ages and has been proved to be beneficial for the skin. It is definitely my number 1 must-have!

2. Collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer

I always like to carry a concealer with me for the days when I need to cover any blemishes, redness or under eye circles. This one in particular has become my favorite to carry around because it is compact, easy to use and has excellent coverage. It is pretty high coverage, but it does not look too heavy on the skin. I love it particularly for those days when I go out somewhere straight from uni and don’t have much time to completely redo my makeup. I just use a bit under the eyes, around the nose, on any spots and voila, my skin looks new and fresh. It photographs beautifully as well. It is very affordable on top of everything, so definitely a steal!

3. Chanel Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Definer

I just discovered this eye pencil not long ago but it shortly became a must-have for me. However I like to use it in the brown color( ‘Brun Intense’) because it is more wearable during the day but still very dark if I want to use it at night. I has a very smooth texture and applies beautifully. It also stays on quite long. It works really well for me because I use it a lot on my waterline and it does the job perfectly, without smudging in the next 15 minutes. You can also use it for more smokey eye effects, as it can blend quite well. The only thing I would say if you are a fan of eye pencils that stay on the whole day without smudging at all, it is probably not the best choice. However, if you are like me and like to have a smoother pencil that still lasts a considerable amount of time but it is smooth enough  to blend and create different looks this is ideal.

4. YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick

This is the most exciting thing out of all of these! I adore these lipsticks! I haven’t tried one color so far that I don’t love, and I certainly don’t have the best skin tone. But the really great thing about them is that they are very smooth, they almost glide on your lips. They have great nude colors for everyday wear. I usually have quite dry lips and this is one of the few lipsticks that does not dry out my lips. You can also layer it to have anything from a sheer color to a very opaque one.

5. L’oreal Paris Glam Shine lip gloss

I think the fact that I have been using this product since I was fifteen or something like that speaks for itself 😉 No matter how many lip glosses I try, this is one that I always go back to. It does not dry out my lips, it is very glossy, comes in so many pretty colors, it pretty much goes with everything and it makes your lips look very full. What else could we ask for? 🙂 I just hope L’oreal doesn’t discontinue them or something 🙂 I would be very sad.

Hope you liked it!

Stay fab 😉
